A cam and crankshaft sensor coupler (also called a sensor pigtail connector, wiring harness plug, or socket coupler) is a replacement plastic and terminal block that joins the engine wiring harness to your vehicle’s camshaft or crankshaft position sensor
Purpose and Function
- Signal Transmission: Carries voltage and pulse signals from the cam or crank sensor back to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to synchronize fuel injection and ignition timing
- Replacement Need: Plastic lock tabs often crack, or heat and engine vibration degrade the internal copper wires, leading to rough idling, misfires, or a no-start condition
- Pigtail Assembly: Usually sold with a short length of wire and pre-crimped or sealed terminals so you can splice or solder a damaged factory plug
- Pin Count: Typically available in 2-pin or 3-pin configurations depending on whether the sensor is an inductive type (2-wire) or Hall-effect type (3-wire)
